A new project is being launched in Milan’s schools. Code4Grow, run by MasterCoder and Yunik and sponsored by Contactlab, is on a mission to teach computational thinking and robotics to pupils in primary and secondary school.

Code4Grow is a free educational project being rolled out across primary and secondary schools. Using the Scratch program invented by MIT Media Lab, the initiative aims to tackle educational poverty and develop math, digital and computational skills in 7 to 14 year olds, as recommended by the National Guidelines 2012.

The project can kickstart at any point in the academic year, in any Italian school, thanks to sponsorship from companies. Three schools in Milan and one in Lecce have already taken part.

Contactlab is proud to be part of the Code4Grow project, and be among the expanding ecosystem of companies supporting digital literacy. The initiative is promoted by Yunik, the association supporting social mobility by organizing courses and activities for pupils during their time in school, and by MasterCoder, a creative workshop for children and teenagers using technology and play to teach programming and coding, based on an idea conceived by Contactlab founder Massimo Fubini.

Code4Grow is on a mission to get as many classes in Italian primary and secondary schools involved as possible. Each school is offered a free training session for the teachers, and a total of 10 hours of workshops enabling pupils to experiment with coding and robotics. At the end of the workshops, the class can continue taking part in the project by entering a competition to showcase the knowledge they have learned. The entries will be judged by a panel of Contactlab experts.
